He was a 1949 graduate of Brighton High School and a graduate of RIT, and was also known to fondly regale his family with stories of his days as a Chi Phi at Rensselaer Polytechnic. He graduated from Watkins Glen High School and married Denise Dabich at Shequaga Falls. She taught school for a short time.
